ENGLISH (1st Grade) UNIT 1

UNIT 1: Ready for school!
Dear Parent/Carer,
Your child is about to start Unit 1 of their course book New High Five! 1. The title of this unit is Ready for school! In this unit, your child will learn the names of common classroom objects, ask and say where these objects are and give and respond to simple classroom instructions. This language is introduced in the Pupil’s Book through a vocabulary chant, the songs I’m ready for school! and Let’s tidy up and the story Toby goes to school.
Through the story, your child will be encouraged to think about the value of keeping the classroom tidy.
In Unit 1, your child will also have the opportunity to listen to and say a humorous tongue twister to practise the sound ‘r’, learn about the activities children do in school assembly in British primary schools and read a classroom poster in the literacy lesson. This poster reinforces the importance of good behaviour in the classroom. Your child will then complete a review lesson to show what they have learnt and the class will sing the Well done! song.
Thank you again for making your child’s experience of learning English as enjoyable and successful as possible. I hope that you and your child enjoy this unit and the whole course.
With best wishes,
Class English teacher
