ENGLISH (2nd Grade) UNIT 1

UNIT 1: Move your body

Dear Parent/Carer,

Your child is about to start Unit 1 of their coursebook New High Five! 2. The title of this unit is Move your body. In this unit, your child will learn the names of sports and ask and say if they do these sports. Your child will also learn the names of actions related to these sports.

This language is introduced in the Pupil’s Book through a vocabulary chant, the songs Do you play any sports? and He’s a superstar! and the story The very busy week. Through the story, your child will be encouraged to think about the value of organising their things.

In Unit 1, your child will also have the opportunity to listen to and say a humorous tongue twister to practise the sound ‘ai/ay’, learn about the sports children do at Sports Day in British primary schools and read a poem in the literacy lesson. Your child will then complete a review lesson to show what they have learnt and, if they will be taking an external exam in the future, they will practise for this by completing the Exams Practice.

Thank you again for making your child’s experience of learning English as enjoyable and successful as possible. I hope that you and your child enjoy this unit and the whole course.

With best wishes,

Class English teacher
