ENGLISH (2nd Grade) UNIT 2

UNIT 2: Let`s go shopping!

Dear Parent,

Your child is about to start Unit 2 of their coursebook New High Five! 2. The title of this unit
is Let’s go shopping! In this unit, your child will learn how to ask for common foods and say
how much they cost. This language is introduced in the Pupil’s Book through a vocabulary
chant, the songs Let’s go shopping! and How much is this? and the story The naughty
parrot. Through the story, your child will be encouraged to think about the value of saying
please when asking for something.

In Unit 2, your child will also have the opportunity to listen to and say a humorous tongue
twister to practise the sound ‘ee/ea’, learn about Pancake Day in Britain and read a recipe in
the literacy lesson. Your child will then complete a review lesson to show what they have
learnt and, if they will be taking an external exam in the future, they will practise for this by
completing the Exams Practice.

Thank you again for making your child’s experience of learning English as enjoyable and
successful as possible. I hope that you and your child enjoy this unit and the whole course.

With best wishes,

Class English teacher
